Listen, I give no shit on people who doesn’t want to respect what I’m doing. You seeking gratis downloads? Perfect, come here and have it. I offer so much gratis stuff, there’s no need to rip me off. You really think it’s cool to actually steal content without asking? Did you ever TRY to ask me? In 99 from 100 cases my answer is ‘yes’, if you’d only be able to have the balls to ask me. What is your fucking problem, what went wrong and which part of the story is so hard to understand?
DJing might look like an easy job. Sometimes I hear stuff like:

Here’s why it’s a bit more than hitting a venue and playing music like average Joe could do:
Finding the right music: I receive around 400 to 600 promos from all kinds of labels and genres each month. I need to listen to them ALL to find MY music. 80% of it is crap, 10% supercrap, 5% good, 5% very good. I only play the 5% that I find very good. But there’s not only the work to listen to ALL the promos, there is also the browsing through the stores and it’s (mostly) crappy samples. BTW, I recommend Resonant Vibes and audiojelly. Beatport just in cases when I can’t find track XYZ elsewhere. Finding the right music is the most time eating thing of the job.
Sorting the right music: I label my tracks after genre, NOT by tagging but file name adding like Peter Parker - Spiderman Song (Vogelmann Remix) - PROG. Each and every genre has its own folder on my HD’s, both the studio system and the gig notebook, always in sync.
Touching the music: Each and every track gets slighty sound optimized by myself, like loudness correction or a bit of equalizing, I have my own scripts or batches for that processes. Each and every track gets key detected for harmonic mixing.
The above is the hidden part of my DJ job, not many people have an idea what that means. To be exact: it’s the most important part of the job because THIS IS WHAT MAKES YOU AN ARTIST under millions of DJ’s. Compare it to a painter, his colours, his brushes, his canvas and all that stuff. Then there’s his way of painting and this is the part when I’m going live.
Let’s be honest: Beatmixing is not the hardest part of playing live. You have a bit of a rhythmic feeling? Okay, I’ll teach you in less than 2 weeks. But do you have the right ears, the right feeling for ‘what comes next’? Can you feel the audience? Is your sound right, EQing and all that stuff? When should you change the style a bit or the tempo? And what about your ‘acting role’ whilst DJing, do you have a charismatic aura or do you behave or look like an idiot? Don’t get me wrong, I find it very important to be authentic, but LIVE you’re not bedroom DJing.
A good DJ needs to be reliable with playing times and dates, needs to take care about his technical equipment and all that stuff, needs to find HIS style and satisfy HIS fans everytime he’s playing … I could write an endless list of other aspects of successful DJing. Just wanted to give you a glimpse of the background of things.

It is possible that my distributor really made a contract with ringtone distribution companies. Please, inform me if this is the case in my case, I will also ask my distributor.[1]

Sharing my music is part of my intentions, music has got to be shared for everyone. STEALING is not part of my intentions.

Samstag, der 26. April ‘08 morgens und 8 Uhr irgendwas. Bin seit ner Weile nach 16 Stunden Arbeit zu Haus und habe das unendliche Glück die Wiederholung der (des) LIGHTWORKS zu hören. Grad läuft Deine Version von “Its gonna be a fine day” meinen Gehörgang herunter.
Das Orginal habe ich geliebt, zumindest bis ich Deine Version davon gehört habe. Nur göttlich. Nach gefühlten 60 Minuten Gänsehaut wird Dein Set stetig besser. Ich müsste schon längst schlafen, aber dann würde ich diese akustische Philharmonie verpassen. Hält mich gefangen wie ein Magnet.

An sich nur bedanken für Deine göttlichen Sets, Die mich schon seit langem in himmlische Sphären gleiten lassen. Hört sich komisch an, ist aber so. Von Show zu Show steigerst Du Dich nur. Die Sets sind unbezahlbar ….

I’ll be honest here; haven’t been massively impressed with part 1 of this show so far. Until 170 mins that is; this track is niiiiice!
Think the thing is that progressive music, to me at least, seems to have been changing a lot for a few months now. The sort of tunes that came before that track mentioned above in this set don’t really appeal to me - they’re a bit ‘beepy’ and ‘minimal’ I guess. Not sure, I’m struggling to actually explain it, but anyone with this set downloaded (from friskySubscription of course) can see what I mean. The one at 170 mins is far more my sort of sound!
That’s no criticism to you Ingo, of all the sets played on frisky, it’s LIGHTWORKS that I love the most by far. I have my own little habit of adding an entry to the ID3 tag of the MP3 file for any tracks I find I like (see, so I can find them again at a later date, and your sets always have loads of those (see my screenshot below). I imagine you’ve got to include music you like, but also music you know other people will like, and it all comes down to personal preference and what sound moves each person. I have a rough idea what my sound is, it doesn’t mean the other stuff is wrong or bad.
I’m a pretty crap progressive fan really; I rarely have any idea of waht’s going on in the genre, I just know I like the music. Would be good actually if someone could explain why, how and in what way progressive has been changing over the past 6 months, or year, or even few years. I first started listening to this stuff back in…end of 2004, and the stuff then sounds very different to the stuff now. All genres evolve and change of course, I just wonder what the influences are.
I suppose in a way I’m just trying to keep hold of the ’style’ of progressive that I first heard way back then, but it seems to be slipping away…
I still hear plenty of good prog though, in shows like LIGHTWORKS (of course), 6th Auditorium, Deepest Level, Mindfields, Sol Solar, so I know it’s out there! All credit to the guys who bring that music to us - the producers and the DJs - because I’d never get to hear so many amazing tracks if it weren’t for them.

If you want to send me money then buy my music on Beatport, iTunes, audiojelly (or many other stores) or in the L2MusicStore (which is the best).
i know its gonna sound like im posting here only because you posted about my show… but this couldnt be more honest and true… and the way the situation presents itself, shows it
i left frisky on my room’s pc and went to sleep… was taking a nice nap after a killer exam i had this morning.. when i went to bed, fede monachesi’s AOW was on….
now a while before, i was half asleep - half awake and was listening to some crazy ass incredibly beautifull music and my mind was wondering… i couldnt get ahold of myself yet enough to understand where this music was coming from, i was thinking “my GOD, i should play this next saturday… do i have all this tunes? are they mine??”… until my brain understood it was frisky that i had left before i went to bed… and i simply had to get up and come see who the fuck was playing this stuff!!
to my great surprise.. it was mister vogelmann, so i had to post what had just happened and here i am…
sorry for making it a long story but this music actually made my day, and i should make it clear that i never listen to other djs sets because im usually simply not interested in what any djs play…
Es geht um Mike Oldfield in Bilbao / Premierenkonzert. Der Brief ist gerichtet an Universal:
Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren,
zunächst einmal möchten wir uns bei allen bedanken, die sich dafür eingesetzt haben, uns als Herausgeber des deutschen Fanmagazins HIAWATHA II und unseren Lesern die Teilnahme am Premierenkonzert von Mike Oldfields neuem Werk Music Of The Spheres im Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao zu ermöglichen.
Es hätte eine grandiose Veranstaltung werden können. Austragungsort und Zusammenstellung des Premierenkonzerts verhießen einen unvergesslichen Abend. Unvergesslich wurde er leider in negativer Hinsicht. Die teilnehmenden Fans aus Europa und den USA wurden zum Teil bitter enttäuscht!
Über die äußerst vage und unzureichende Kommunikation im Vorfeld der Veranstaltung lässt sich sicher trefflich streiten. Auch dass die definitive Zusage für die Teilnehmer erst 6 Tage vorher vorlag, ist noch einigermaßen zu verschmerzen, wenn auch für einen Großteil der Beteiligten mit ganz erheblichen Mühen und enormen finanziellen Aufwendungen verbunden. So war ein Großteil der Flüge und Hotels ausgebucht oder nur mit unverhältnismäßig hohen Aufschlägen erhältlich; viele mussten auch Umwege über benachbarte Städte in Kauf nehmen. Vereinzelt wurden Flüge und Hotels gebucht, ohne dass eine definitive Urlaubszusage des Arbeitgebers vorlag. Vieles hätte also bereits bequem im Vorfeld geregelt werden können, hätte die Einladung ein paar Wochen vorher vorgelegen. Letztlich hat nur die gemeinsame Anstrengung aller es doch noch ermöglicht, den Teilnehmern die Anreise und das Finden einer Unterkunft zu ermöglichen.
Was die Art und Weise unserer Behandlung vor, während und nach des Konzerts angeht, lässt sie sich jedoch bestenfalls als geringschätzig bezeichnen. Hieß es im Vorfeld, wir würden um 20:45 Uhr vor dem Eingang abgeholt, wurden wir nach 21:00 Uhr hektisch zusammengetrommelt, um das Museum herumgeführt und durch einen Hintereingang - von den geladenen Gästen weitgehend unbemerkt - eingelassen.
Was uns dann erwartete, verschlug jedoch den meisten von uns die Sprache: Wir wurden vor ein Absperrband geleitet, das sich hinter zwei massiven Säulen des Auditoriums seitlich neben dem Orchester befand, und mussten dort während des gesamten Konzerts stehend verharren. Die Sicht auf das Orchester war massiv beeinträchtigt, auch wenn es im Vorfeld hieß, die Sicht „könne möglicherweise eingeschränkt” sein. Der Großteil der dort Verweilenden konnte nicht einmal Mike Oldfield selbst erblicken. So haben die meisten von uns buchstäblich in die „Röhre” geguckt!
Da die Klangausrichtung für die Teilnehmer im Auditorium optimiert worden war, war das, was wir zu hören bekamen, lediglich als diffus und schwammig zu bezeichnen. Mikes Gitarre war überwiegend gar nicht herauszuhören!
So gab es denn auch Teilnehmer, die das Museum aus lauter Wut und Verzweiflung während des Konzerts bereits wieder verließen. Auch wenn das Auditorium bis auf den letzten Platz besetzt war, hätte es doch andere Möglichkeiten gegeben: Die Balkonbrüstungen oberhalb der Bühne waren allesamt unbesetzt, lediglich Reinigungskräfte durften einen Blick von dort oben erhaschen!
Fragen wirft auch die unterschiedliche Behandlung der Fans einzelner Länder auf. So durften einige der spanischen Fans im Auditorium Platz nehmen, wohingegen wir nicht einmal hinter den Zuschauern stehen durften. Nach der Veranstaltung wurden wir mit eindeutigen Handbewegungen mehr oder we-niger unhöflich hinauskomplimentiert. Auch vor dem Eingang selbst durften wir nicht verweilen.
Der Vollständigkeit halber darf allerdings nicht unerwähnt bleiben, dass sich eine deutsche Dame namens Barbara (Nachname leider unbekannt) zumindest verständisvoll bemüht hat. Sie wurde wohl rein zufällig damit beauftragt, uns zu „betreuen” - leider konnte auch sie nichts bewirken. Sie hat sich unsere Meinungen geduldig angehört und fand es nach eigener Auffassung auch absolut unverständlich, weshalb wir nicht zumindest auf eine der Galerien gelassen wurden.
Was übrig geblieben ist, ist ein kläglich gescheiterter Versuch, die Fans von Mike Oldfield mit einzubeziehen sowie ein fahler Beigeschmack. Als „Gast” dürfte sich an diesem Abend sicherlich keiner der Teilnehmer aus der Oldfield-Community gefühlt haben. Bestenfalls der Begriff „geduldet” wird der Situation einigermaßen gerecht.
Es stellt sich die Frage, mit wem Universal tatsächlich gerechnet hat: grölenden Rowdies oder hysterischen Teenies? Das Gros der Teilnehmer aus aller Welt unterstützt Mike und seine Musik bereits seit vielen Jahren oder gar Jahrzehnten, zum Teil auch seit Anbeginn seiner Karriere. Die meisten von uns sind gestandene Persönlichkeiten, die beruflich sehr erfolgreich sind und die Grundregeln des menschlichen Zusammenlebens beherrschen. Und nicht zuletzt waren und sind wir auch Garanten und Multiplikatoren für den wirtschaftlichen Erfolg von Mike Oldfield!
Wir haben in dieser langen Zeit oftmals Rückschläge und auch einen katastrophalen Mangel an Unterstützung durch den Künstler selbst erfahren. Insofern ist die Veranstaltung in Bilbao nur ein weiteres Kapitel im großen oldfieldschen Buch der Enttäuschungen, das möglicherweise bei vielen der Betroffenen dazu führen könnte, Ihre Unterstützung nicht länger aufrechtzuerhalten.
Trotz aller Kritik sind wir froh und dankbar, dass Universal den Dialog mit den Betreibern der Oldfield-Plattformen und -Zeitschriften sucht. Auch uns ist sehr an einem offenen, ehrlichen und respektvollen Umgang gelegen. Wir wollen aber auch ernst genommen und respektiert werden. Wir sind zudem überzeugt, dass mit unserer Unterstützung ein Erfolg für beide Seiten hätte erzielt werden können.
Wir würden uns sehr freuen, wenn Sie dieses Schreiben an die Verantwortlichen von Universal Spain weiterleiten und hoffen auf eine gute Zusammenarbeit im beiderseitigen Sinne in der weiteren Zukunft.
