Aber ist heute, zum Ende der Dekade der DJ-Musik, der DJ nicht ein Anachronismus: der DJ im digitalen Zeitalter. Hier gehts doch nicht mehr weiter. Sind technische Innovationen für DJs denkbar?
Man kann feststellen, daß der DJ-Live-Set bereits aus den frühen Hip-Hop- und Disco-Tagen, aus den frühen 70ern stammt. Seit diesen Tagen wurde immer wieder experimentiert, mal noch einen dritten Turntable, ein Keyboard, ein Effektgerät, einen 2. DJ oder was auch immer dazuzustellen. Letztenendes haben sich die meisten DJs doch mit dieser erweiterten Aufgabe doch immer etwas überfordert gefühlt. Es ist immer darauf zurückgegangen, daß am Ende der DJ mit seinen zwei Turntables und seinem Mischpult dasteht. Offenbar ist es gar nicht so einfach, die Musik, die Platten, das Publikum und die Turntables im Auge zu behalten, insbesondere, wenn man Musik und Publikum “synchronisieren” will. Alles, was sich an Weiterentwicklungen getan hat, hat sich über den Dancefloor getan. Ich glaube nicht, daß die Weiterentwicklung durch eine Addition technischer Gimmicks entsteht….
Also Freunde, ich bin zurück,(1) und daß Erste, was ich tun möchte:
Herzlichsten Dank an Sascha Lobo für seine Gastfreundschaft(2) … ebenso herzlichsten Dank an Sven Weimann (Durango) und Tom Beltor (beide friskyDJs) für die gute Zeit, die wir zusammen in Berlin hatten. Es schreit nach Wiederholung, die aber sowieso am 9. August stattfindet.
Bei der Masse an Menschen war es nicht nur nahezu unmöglich, nahe an das Geschehen heran zu kommen, es sei denn, man war gewillt, körperliche Schäden in Kauf zu nehmen (was ich nicht war). Das Ganze erinnerte mich an die Beatles (oder Elvis) in den 60-ern, als reihenweise Menschen in Ohnmacht fielen, wenn die irgendwo auftraten.(3)
Ohne weitere große Umschweife, hier der vMovie zum Geschehen. Anmerkung: Ich konnte nicht so, wie ich ursprünglich wollte. Warum, das seht ihr, wenn ihr den vMovie schaut:
Der Mann ist ein reiner Popstar. Wenn einer, dann er. Obama hat selbst in den USA noch nie vor 250.000 Menschen gesprochen, noch nicht einmal vor mehr als 100.000. Wenn man das (fast) hautnah miterlebt, dann wird der Unterschied zwischen einem Bildschirm und ‘live’ schon sehr deutlich (ähnlich wie bei mir und meinen Sendungen auf friskyRadio, obgleich ich sicher nicht mit Obama zu vergleichen bin). Obama elektrisiert, fesselt und emotionalisiert die Massen. Seine Aura ist unbeschreiblich, er ist der ‘Freund der Menschen’. Man nimmt die Inszenierung zwar wahr, aber irgendwie passt es trotzdem. Oder genau deshalb, ich weiss es nicht genau zu beschreiben.
Es hat mich schlicht ergriffen, als ich mir bewusst machte, daß ein US-Senator aus Illinois - der noch kein US-Präsident ist - eine private Veranstaltung an der Berliner Siegessäule abhält, die derartige Ausmaße annimmt. Das ist schon abgefahren.
Die Rede, vom Inhalt her, war fast nebensächlich, obgleich sehr gut. Man kann, wenn man will, Vieles daran kritisch betrachten (Thomas), muss man aber nicht, es geht nämlich um HOFFNUNG und WECHSEL, und da bin ich doch erstmal prinzipiell dabei; kaum etwas brauchen wir ALLE mehr.
Ich mag die positiven Vibes, die Obama weckt und verbreitet. Etwas, was auf der Welt defintiv fehlt … dieses Gefühl, dieser Antriebsmotor, der Menschen bewegt. Ich finde das gut, damit rennt Barack bei mir offene Türen ein.
Ich möchte mir gerne einbilden, daß er DER RICHTIGE ist, genau der Richtige zum Richtigen Zeitpunkt. Möge man das kritisch betrachten, soviel man möchte … mich juckt erstmal nur der positive Effekt. Und ich erinnere nur: Obama predigt keine Gewalt, keine heile Welt, keine radikalen Schritte.
Cool down people. Man gehe nicht fehl und vergleiche das Eine mit dem Anderen. Lasst uns alle ein wenig in dem Gefühl verweilen und Hoffnung haben. Sie stirbt zuletzt.
Auch wenn’s schwer fällt: Auch Bush (beide) war Gottes Wille.

DJing might look like an easy job. Sometimes I hear stuff like:
Hey, what’s so difficult about playing some music out?
Here’s why it’s a bit more than hitting a venue and playing music like average Joe could do:
Finding the right music: I receive around 400 to 600 promos from all kinds of labels and genres each month. I need to listen to them ALL to find MY music. 80% of it is crap, 10% supercrap, 5% good, 5% very good. I only play the 5% that I find very good. But there’s not only the work to listen to ALL the promos, there is also the browsing through the stores and it’s (mostly) crappy samples. BTW, I recommend Resonant Vibes and audiojelly. Beatport just in cases when I can’t find track XYZ elsewhere. Finding the right music is the most time eating thing of the job.
Sorting the right music: I label my tracks after genre, NOT by tagging but file name adding like Peter Parker - Spiderman Song (Vogelmann Remix) - PROG. Each and every genre has its own folder on my HD’s, both the studio system and the gig notebook, always in sync.
Touching the music: Each and every track gets slighty sound optimized by myself, like loudness correction or a bit of equalizing, I have my own scripts or batches for that processes. Each and every track gets key detected for harmonic mixing.
The above is the hidden part of my DJ job, not many people have an idea what that means. To be exact: it’s the most important part of the job because THIS IS WHAT MAKES YOU AN ARTIST under millions of DJ’s. Compare it to a painter, his colours, his brushes, his canvas and all that stuff. Then there’s his way of painting and this is the part when I’m going live.
Let’s be honest: Beatmixing is not the hardest part of playing live. You have a bit of a rhythmic feeling? Okay, I’ll teach you in less than 2 weeks. But do you have the right ears, the right feeling for ‘what comes next’? Can you feel the audience? Is your sound right, EQing and all that stuff? When should you change the style a bit or the tempo? And what about your ‘acting role’ whilst DJing, do you have a charismatic aura or do you behave or look like an idiot? Don’t get me wrong, I find it very important to be authentic, but LIVE you’re not bedroom DJing.
A good DJ needs to be reliable with playing times and dates, needs to take care about his technical equipment and all that stuff, needs to find HIS style and satisfy HIS fans everytime he’s playing … I could write an endless list of other aspects of successful DJing. Just wanted to give you a glimpse of the background of things.
On Wednesday evening, June 25, Germany and Turkey will meet in the semifinal round of the 2008 European Football Championship in Basel, Switzerland. Various cities in Germany have set up viewing areas for the public to watch the live broadcast of this game. The “Fan Mile” in front of the Brandenberg Gate in Berlin is expected to draw up to 500,000 German and Turkish fans, Frankfurt am Main will host a public viewing area at the Rossmarkt, and Munich is setting up a large public viewing area at the Olympic Stadium where 30,000 fans are anticipated. Similar events are planned in other cities and spontaneous celebrations or demonstrations related to the match may occur throughout Germany.
Because of the high fan interest in this prestigious semi-final elimination game between Germany and Turkey, there exists the possibility that disturbances, including violent disturbances may occur before, during or after the match, which begins at 20:45. At a minimum, post-game celebrations will likely result in traffic congestion in larger cities. Crowds celebrating previous German and/or Turkish victories have blocked streets and rocked vehicles attempting to pass through them.
We remind American citizens in Germany that even mass gatherings and demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and possibly escalate into violence. American citizens are therefore urged to avoid the areas of demonstrations if possible, and to exercise caution if within the vicinity of any demonstrations. American citizens should stay current with media coverage of local events and be aware of their surroundings at all times.
